Skin Care – Golden Rules To Beautiful, Young Looking Skin!


Skin care in India, even in metros like Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, etc. is offered by beauticians, cosmetologists, cosmetic companies, cosmetic dermatologists, dermatologists, skin doctors etc.No wonder with so many types of practitioners claiming expertise, the consumer is confused as to who can offer him/her the best and correct skin care solution.

Skin-Care

How to diagnose your skin type –

Normal skin – Normal skin is smooth, soft, with no visible pores or blemishes, no greasy or flaky areas. It has a healthy glow.

Dry skin – Dry skin has a low level of sebum – ‘natural skin oil’, is not well hydrated and feels parched, dull and tight since it cannot retain moisture. One always feels the need to put some moisturizer or cream after washing the face.

Oily skin – The skin looks shiny, thick and dull due to overactive oil glands. It is very prone to acne and open pores. You feel the need to wash the skin repeatedly every 2-3 hours due to the greasy look.

Combination skin – The skin in the T-zone which includes the forehead, nose and the chin, is oily, and the rest of the face is drier.

1. Normal skin care –

a. Cleanse twice daily with a mild normal skin care face wash of skin pH, followed by a mild toner to keep the pores tight.

b. Apply a broad spectrum sunscreen for normal skin with a high SPF daily.

c. Apply a light moisturiser at night to keep the skin hydrated.

d. If make up is used, remove it with cleansing milk and face wash.

e. Use an exfoliating scrub two weekly followed by a non-drying face mask

2.  Dry skin care –

a. Use a hydrating creamy face wash with skin pH not more than twice daily.

b. Toners are not recommended for dry skin care.

c. After cleansing, always follow up with a skin care moisturiser containing vitamin E, Squalene, omega-3 fatty acids etc.

d. Top it with a broad spectrum high SPF sunscreen meant for dry skin.

e. Make up products if used should be cream based.

f. Weekly hydrating masks and monthly hydrating facials are recommended for very dry skin care.

3. Oily skin care –

a. Use a foaming face wash with alpha hydroxy acids, salicylic acid etc. 3-4 times a day, followed by an alcohol free toner as basics for oily skin care.

b. Moisturisers are not required.

c. Use a non comedogenic broad spectrum high SPF sunscreen for oily skin.

d. Skin care make up if used should be water based.

e. Use an exfoliating scrub weekly and anti-acne mask if suffering from acne.

f.  Seek a skin care experts’ advice if you have acne, scars and blemishes.

4. Combination skin care –

Skin care for dry and oily skin areas respectively as mentioned above.
